We Bought A House!

We've dreamed of owning our own little piece of Earth for years now. I think we've seriously considered at least a dozen property and made offers on at least five of them but nothing has ever really come of it. Having grown up in rural Central Oregon on five acres I always pictured myself farming a larger parcel of land. We started this process with a ideal early 1900s home in the remote hills of the Coastal Mountain range. It was beautiful; with twenty acres of land, a year round spring, irrigation pond, orchard, and outbuildings. It was also very, very un-financeable (who knew a bank doesn't want your main source of drinking water to be from a creek!) and we simply don't have the money to put a cash offer on anything!

We looked at properties on a progressively smaller (and less ambitious) scale as time went on but when we finally found this little gem in this wonderfully active and friendly neighborhood we jumped on it quickly. We loved the old Portland Charm, the larger lot size, the lovely neighbors, and the location! Honestly, having been born and raised in Portland Taylor was particularly excited with the fact we would have a Portland address! I know that doesn't seem like a big deal to everyone but this city has grown quickly and we never actually figured we could find something that checked off as many "must-haves" and still be affordable in Portland. We knew that we had finally found our home and were super excited to hear that the seller had accepted our offer!

We've got a ton of work ahead of us. We need to run new electrical wires to about three-quarters of the house, reinforce our foundation, replace old and cracked windows, install a laundry-room, restore the wood floors, insulate, update our kitchen and bathroom, design an edible outdoor oasis, and the list goes on! Follow our story as we're about to launch into a massive adventure of all things Do-It-Yourself.
