“It takes a lot of skill to be able to grow food sustainably. Its an art form. We need to raise agriculture up to another different level like they do in Europe where farmers are on the same level as engineers and doctors… because the food that we eat is the most important thing in our lives.”

― Will Allen, Urban Farmer Growing Power

Happy Thursday Everyone!

First off, thank y'all for being so considerate with the adjustment of delivery day this week. We really appreciate it! We're heading down to Central Oregon to visit family and enjoy ourselves at the Deschutes County Fair. This will be Juniper's first time at the fair and I'm looking forward to sharing one of my most treasured childhood memories with her. We've been really hyping up the animals there so I'm sure we'll spend the majority of our time in the barns checking out the cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks and rabbits.

In the last two weeks we have a few new additions to the farm- six black sexlink hens. It has been a bit of adjustment for our other ladies but now that everyone has landed and adjusted to their new spot in the pecking order things are back to normal! Additionally, in the last week our rare breed birds (Welsummer, Maran, Moss Egger, Olive Egger, and Azure Egger) have begun to lay eggs! If you've bought into our eggs shares you'll start to notice all those pretty colored eggs in your shares.

While the addition of the new birds has been great (we can't ever have enough eggs in this house!) one unforeseen project did pop up- fencing! Our flock has so far been contained well in their run with a simple fence. However, the new birds weren't used to that and have been spending a lot of time digging in the garden and laying in the bushes. We do let our birds around the farm to forage but that typically is under the watchful of eye of Juniper who doesn't let them get into much trouble. In order to protect the crops, and our birds, we needed to begin building a more solid enclosure. Check out the banner image for a preview of our coop updates! We've got lots more to do before it's finished but it's progress!

Enjoy this first week of August y'all!
