“We can be joyful while we’re trying to change the world. As long we we’re also aware that you can’t get away with things just by doing the easy stuff. You actually have to challenge certain things and put yourself in uncomfortable positions, often risking things in order to achieve real change.”
―Antonio Roman-Alcala, Alemany Farm
Happy Friday Everyone!
BIG NEWS from the farm this week! We're really excited to announce that we're in the process of finalizing a lease agreement with a neighbor for access to their land. It will likely take effect this fall and will approximately DOUBLE our production space. This will be a monumental change for our farm and is going to require a great deal of time, energy, and emotional investment on our part to make it happen. It's both an incredibly happy feeling and feeling of sheer overwhelm. Let's just say, there will likely be some volunteer opportunities this winter to help us prepare that space! If the timing works out like we hope- it will allow us to plant all of our winter crops in the new space and put our current garden fully into cover crops for the winter. So in addition to more growing space we'll get to continue to building the health of our soils.
In other news, we hope you'll join us for a FREE screening of Local Thirty, an inspiring documentary about food, community and finding home. Tuesday, September 10th, 2019 at Patagonia (1106 W. Burnside St. Portland, Or 97209). Doors open at 7pm and the film will be followed by a Q&A with the films creator, Andrea Bemis of Dishing Up The Dirt. There will be drinks and food for sale at the event and all proceeds go towards Portland Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition, which works to connect local producers to local eaters. You can watch the trailer below and you can get your FREE tickets by following this link:
Finally, our family is going on a much appreciated vacation and we need to adjust our schedule somewhat. We're going to move our regularly scheduled pickup from Friday, August 2nd to Thursday, August 1st. Please let us know if that change does not work for you so we can make the accommodations. Again, we'll have a normal harvest this coming week and then we will have a pickup on THURSDAY, August 1st.
Enjoy all this hot weather y'all!
