Basil
(Ocimum basilicum)
Size: Six-Pack (mixed variety) and 4” pot
Enjoy the diversity of our mixed variety six-pack that includes:
Dark Opal- A very attractive dark purple basil. While the sweet taste is nearly identical to the standard Genovese type the color makes this a wonderful addition when used fresh in recipes. Slower to bolt than many other varieties.
Genovese- A wonderful variety for the northern grower, this variety has very large and aromatic leaves. The compact growth makes this a great choice for container gardening.
Thai- Authentic Asian basil flavor that’s an essential component in Thai cuisine. Very flavorful with a strong licorice taste.
We also offer a wide variety of speciality basil that includes:
Thai- Authentic Asian basil flavor that’s an essential component in Thai cuisine. Very flavorful with a strong licorice taste.
Tulsi- Our personal favorite, an undeniably delightful aroma! Grown for making tea out of the leaves but an excellent addition to the cottage garden for the smell alone.
Planting Information:
Basil can be planted in the garden after the danger of frost has passed and when the soil has warmed to roughly 50 degrees. Pinching the growing tip will keep the plants very bushy, producing more leaves, and delaying the flowering stage. Enjoys full sun and warm temperatures.
