Anaheim, Highlander- Adapted Anaheim variety for the northern gardener! The semi-thick, smooth, glossy skin of this variety makes for excellent roasting. Plants are large and tall with thick stems. Highlander range 1,000-1,500 SHU on the Scoville scale.
Buena Mulata- A very rare but prolific hot pepper with a stunning range of colors at it matures including violet, pink, orange, brown and eventually a deep red. Long, thin pods reach 6 to 7 inches and become more sweet as they ripen. Introduced by Black folk artist Horace Pippin in 1944. Great production with ornamental quality. Buena Mulata range from 30,000-50,000 SHU on the Scoville scale.
Cayenne, Long Thin- The classic Cayenne. Matures earlier and has a glossy sheen skin with a bright red color. Productive plants with loads of fruit great for fresh eating, dried, crushed and powered. Cayenne ranges from 20,000-30,000 SHU on the Scoville scale.
Chinese Five Color- Very hot peppers that turn a rainbow of bright colors from purple, cream, yellow, orange to red when fully ripe. This pepper does great in containers and has high ornamental value. This pepper packs a punch! Chinese Five Color ranges from 30,000-50,000 SHU on the Scoville scale.
Jalapeño, Jalafuego- Big, juicy pepper that is perfect for stuffed jalapeños. The flesh is thick and flavorful with just a hint of spice. Great for those who want the flavor of jalapeños without the heat. This variety has produced very well for us. Ranges from 4,000-6,000 SHU on the Scoville scale.
Jalapeño, Early- An abundance of large, dark green fruits on very strong plants. This variety produces over a very long window in our region. Slow to checking and cracking provides for a gorgeous harvest. Great stuffing pepper. Ranges from 2,500-5,000 SHU on the Scoville scale.
Padron- Famous Spanish heirloom. These small peppers are about 2 inches long and can range in color from bright green to yellowish green and even red if allowed to mature fully. About 1 out of 10 fruits will be hot and the others mild. Padron peppers are customarily blistered in olive oil and then served with a pinch of course salt, yum!
Poblano- One of the most popular chilis in Mexico, Poblano is a 3-6 inch heart shaped pepper with mild heat. This is the classic pepper for chili relents. When dried, the fruits turn a dark red-brown and can be ground into an authentic red chili powered. Require a long season and will do best in the warmest spot in your garden. Poblano ranges from 1,000-1,500 SHU on the Scoville scale.
